This would be OK, but you can also use UF wire (underground feeder) which can be buried directly surrounded by the earth, but use a 20 amp circuit and a ground breakdown detector to protect the circuit, I think that's required surrounded by a auto garage. Not up on the new electrical code resembling I was until that time retirement.

Yes you can run a single circuit to the garage short a sub panel. You can use thw or thwn wire surrounded by conduit, or type UF buried without conduit. Either connect the circuit to a GFCI circuit breaker within your service panel, or connect to a GFCI receptacle in the garage. No problem next to the national electric code, but of course none of us know your local or state electric codes.
