How do you build an ottoman?

What is the most efficient, and affordable way to build a top quality ottoman or footstool or ottoman / coffe table that could be valued at around $250? And how would you make it sturdy enough for someone to sit on?

Answers:
Build a wood box, with solid wood sides and plywood top and bottom. If you want it for storage, hinge the top.Cover the top with thick batting and staple on upholstery.
Cover the sides the same way with your fabric.
Reinforce the bottom at the corners by gluing on triangles in each corner with liquid nails. Get some leg brackets and attach solid wood legs onto the corners.

You can staple on a skirt or not, as you like.
If you can afford it, make the top and bottom of solid wood too, for weight bearing.
