Okay so it is incredibly hot in our house and we need a way to cool it down. HELP!?
Any suggestions?
Answers:
This will help cool you down.
Place a fan so it is blowing air on a chair.
Get a spray bottle filled with water. Add 1 oz of rubbing alcohol.
Get a light / thin sheet, smock that a barber uses or other similar fabric.
Sit in the chair where fan is blowing and stretch the fabric over you like at the barber. Spray mist onto fabric.
As the water evaporates, it will cool the air under the fabric.
Respray mist every few minutes.

Open the doors to get the air flowing through and put a box fan in the path between the two.
Put aluminum foil on your windows where the sun is most directed at during the day.
swamp coolers work if humidity is below 50 degres lot cheaper then ac
I don't have Air Cond. either just fans all you can do is keep the sun light out. I keep thick dark colored blankets or towels on the windows to block the sun or use aluminum foil taped on the windows. any thing that blocks the sun it will cool the house a lot. It will be very dark but you have to choose hot or dark. and take a lot of cold showers don't dry off. hey im 55 yrs. old it keeps me alive
I don`t know where you live.Humidity is a great factor and there is not much you can do about it.I live in South Africa in the region called Low-veld.During summer the night can become unbearably hot and sleep is uncomfortable. The solution we found is to place a damp towel on the bed for a couple of minutes. Then when the bed is cool you sleep under the wet towel.Unfortunately the towel dries out and you wake up sweating round about 3 or 4 in the morning. Then you have to wet the towel again. The fun thing is that it work better if you sleep in the nude.
If you are handy a gable fan will help a lot! Also attic fans (a different thing) are not too expensive. One last idea is a window Air Conditioner about $100 - put it in the room you spend the most time in and at least you can get out of the heat. Good luck staying cool - MAC
Get fans. Aim them right at you. Open the windows and doors. Use the hose and water down your cement outside the doors.
Keep your window half way opened, and buy air fans. They're cheaper, and pretty effiecient. Have them in all rooms. Get the ones that spin from side to side, so the entire room gets ventilated. The reason you leave your windows half way opened is so that the hot air goes out. One fan per room. In your living room you might want to do two, since it is bigger.
Try not to cook anything hot...or anything where you have to use your stove, cause the hot fumes will spread, and it makes the kitchen and living room hot. Eat something cold, salads, sandwhiches, fresh and healthy stuff. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!. If you have any pets, have them lay down near the fans so that they are cool, and make sure they have water available.
If you get bored at home, go to a local mall or public library, browse around, take a couple of dollars with you to get a cold drink while walking around. I hope this is useful information for you. I know what it's like not to have A/C.
the cheapest long run solution is forced attic ventalation.
I told you! I dont know why you never listen to me!
