how do you preserve deer skins or hides?

lay them out hair side down cover skin side with raw salt fold it up this will keep it untill you take it for sale or tanning

in the old days they would salt heavily, nail to barn or soak in alum but that takes off the hair. in this modern time there are chemicals , but only taxidermist can buy them.

liberally salt inside of hide, then roll up hide hair side out and freeze in plastic bag until ready for tanning.(Countless number of websites about tanning hides)
Do you want to brain tan, or chemical?
Brain tanning is messy but results in the softest, most supple leather. If you can put it in a smoker, even better!
