Looking for a good 42" walk behind residential mower...anybody know of one?
Answers:
This time of year...GOOD LUCK! When you can find one be sure to get a Wright;Grasshopper;Scag;John Deere or a Dixie Chopper. These are industrial mowers, they are more expensive than that crud sold at Lowe's or Home Depot, but for only one yard you will never buy another mower in your life! I bought a 36" Wright Stander for my yard, decided to pick up a few yards to help pay off the mower. You might do the same. The best time to buy a mower is Dec.- Feb. when prices are the lowest. Avoid models like Husqvarna;Lawnboy;Lazermark; and Cub Cadet. These are all cheaply built and do not last long.Yeah I know I'll be getting a lot of Emails on how others have had their mowers for 10 yrs. and still going. Well congrats you beat the odds! Oh Yeah I found a few on EBAY,but I don't suggest that only if you are will desperate. Good Luck

Why not a riding mower?
All those listed above are good.... you pay more of course. I do not agree the lower are "crud", they are residential mowers.... not commercial mowers that go out and cut 10-15. 1.5 to 2.5 acre yards a day, everyday.

Get a commercial walk behind. Mine is 22 years old. You can get them used at a good price and in good condition. Commercial walkbehinds have a roller in back. This is what makes that nice looking pattern in the grass.
