Does anyone know how to get rid of huge fire ant hills without using chemicals that might harm my birds?
Answers:
If those are true fire ants you need to call in the Department of Agriculture for help. Don't attempt to solve this yourself. True fire ants will swarm their victim (you!) and send a chemical signal to each other to bite--all at the same time. You can die from this!
If you're just talking about regular old red ants well then the boiling water idea is a good one.

gasoline in the whole and a match
Hot salt water poured down the hill will make them evacuate for good.
go to Home Depot and get a ant/bug killer that you can sprinkle around the mound....your birds are not going to go by the ant bed and eat the sprinkles there
Take a broom handle and punch a hole deep down into the ant mound. Then pour some gasoline (about 2 cups) into the hole. Follow this by dropping a lit match into it.
The ensuing fire will suck all the oxygen from the tunnels and the colony will either die or move away.
my grandma had told me put grits on them wait one day and then put water so that will give them something to drank and then they will die
