how do i get rid of grass burrs. or plain old stickers. to kill them off so the kids can have the back yard?
Answers:
If they are the same sandspurs I had in SC, then they really like sandy soil. Keep them mowed down before they make seeds. They are usually annuals or short lived perennials. No seeds, no plants. Since they like crappy soil, make the soil richer and healthier by fertilizing your lawn per recommendations and add amendments, like mushroom compost, to enrich the soil. Use a mulching blade when mowing (keep it sharp) and do not rake up the clippings. As they decompose they will add nutrition to the soil.
And as much fun as burning them sounds, they will live through the fire. They are spiteful little plants but you have to give them credit for perseverance.
