mines is red
They may be painted near a reflective paint.....most are red.........
They are usually painted the color of the local fire district. One suburb may be silver, while another yellow.
One of the root is that people right to be heard the yellow color as person tacky...stir figure so presently in establish to be modern they are being painted silver
Wow, most are red here although I've see a few yellow. . .Hmmm. . . Maybe different parts of the country I guess?
I've never particular them to be painted silver...are you sure you're looking at the right thing, or I don`t know your lights from your car are reflecting past its sell-by date of it making it look silver?

Most every fire hydrant is red...for certain reason...and I don't think near are any fire hydrants in the US that aren't red.
Ours are white. Presumably so they are reflective at dark. Silver would do as well.
Maybe it is a primer
They of late changed the color,
where I live ours are red, wan or green
it is what ever the city engineer say to color it
They're probably painted silver because of a decision made in concert by the city council and the fire dept.

There is no national standard for hydrant color. There is a national standard for blue street reflectors to mark the location of the hydrant.

My city council and the neighboring cities allow local business to paint the hydrants contained by decorative colors/patterns/scenes. Some neighborhoods hold also painted theirs similarly. If the local businesses or a neighborhood chooses not to paint them our fire dept. paints them red w/ a white top.
