My young tree was hit by a truck, and split. How do I fix it?
Answers:
If the tree is still structurally sound and not falling down, it should be fine. You might want to make sure the leaves and branches are not over-grown to become too heavy for the injured trunk during summer. Other than that, just give it some fertilizer and enough water, it should survive.

I really dont no if you can 'fix" a tree. You'll need to do a lot of work. Im not sure about glue or special equipment, but Im not sure about "fixing" a tree. Sorry about your tree by the way.

DO NOT WORRY
WHEN SPRING COMES IT WILL HEAL ITSELF. A THAT SPECIAL PAINT METAL STRAPS AND SUPPORTS LOOK AS BAD A CRUTCHS ON MEN.
THE TREE KNOWS ALL ABOUT IT AND WILL DEAL WITH IT... MAYBE A LITTLE FERTILIZER OVER CIRCULAR PATERN = AROUND TREE MIGHT BOOST ITS REGENERATIVE EFFORTS. \
N O! CARVING WILL DO NOTHING, MAY EVEN MAKE IT WORSE, PERHAPS A SQUIRREL OR BIRD WILL LIVE THERE. PERHAPS IT WILL SEND SHOOTS UP
SELECT THE BEST AND PLANT SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Depending on the size of the crack it may heal on its own. I once had a maple tree that split at a fork in the trunk. It was too much of a gap, inches rather than a fraction of an inch.
I was able to drill thru both portions and installed a couple of machine bolts that pulled the two portions back together. The wound healed and the tree grew to be a beautiful mature tree.
If you try to pull the two portions together don't use anything that wraps around the tree because it can cut off the flow of sap from the roots. A temporary binding to pull it together while it is being bolted is okay but not as a permanent fix.
