Why are flying gnats referred to as "Canadian Soldiers?"?



Answers:    The only Canadian Soldiers I know are see for only in the region of 3 days. They are the adult of some loving of fish favorite. Around here they arrive in tremendous numbers, net a very smelly mess, next die.

They are about 1-1 1/2' long, so they really wouldn't qualify as a gnat.

I hold heard they carry their name because they come from Canada. How true this is, I don't know.
