my girlfriend says i can lay quad slabs straight on a lawn, lone laying sand higher than the grass. Surely one has to remove the top branch of grass

The best track is to dig out the nouns to the depth of the slabs plus around three inches more. Then lay down a landscape membrane. This is essential to prevent weed. you need more than sand , you should realy walk down 6 inch and put a hard core bed down if you want it to ending ,, if she thinks she know best let her do it
