A certain animal keeps digging up my hostas (esp. the roots(, what animals would do that?
Answers:
Rabbits occasionally eat young shoots in the spring, and sometimes bite off flower scapes. Squirrels will eat hosta leaves during a drought, and sometimes dig up plants. Voles chew on the roots of hostas, and a heavy infestation of voles may kill plants. Wire cages made of hardware cloth encircling the hosta roots may deter them.
Blood fertilizer will not deter many of these pests and will attract some of them. Stray dogs and even cats can be attracted to it and can cause severe damage to your flower bed.

My mom had the same problem. We found it was a mole. Put some Dried Blood (heads up it stinks) in the soil when you replant it and keep spreading the dried blood around the plants that is what she had to so to get the mole to stop.
