Can major exposed tree root problem be fixed or will tree need to be removed?

Bradford Pear. Tree situated at corner of home and provides great shade. St. Louis, Missouri area. Rocky soil. Roots exposed on ~1/2 of tree - ground on that side slopes down slightly. Can't change grade of yard enough to cover roots. Roots everywhere & getting bigger/higher.

Answers:
You do not need to cover the roots. In, fact, covering exposed ground roots can cause your tree to slowly die. Have you ever noticed that when someone re-grades their property, or adds a couple of feet of fill, that they build a "well" around the tree, so as not to cover the exposed ground roots? Any roots that are sensitive to drying out will die naturally, and the tree will grow new ones in a better place.

What is the problem??? The tree sounds like it is doing fine. Exposed roots are not a problem unless you do not want them showing..then you have no choice.
