can i take an old tree from a roadside and replant it in my garden?

the city where i live is going to take down these trees because of a construction, they give me permission to take the trees, but i dont know if the trees will survive somewhere else. they are very common south texas trees.

Answers:
Yes, if you dig it up with the largest root ball possible and replant it immediately you should be successful. Before digging up the trees you should prepare the holes for their new home. Dig a hole twice as big as you think the root balls will be and loosen up the dirt as deep as you can. Adding some sand to the dirt mixture when you replant will help keep the roots moist. Water the trees heavily then let them stay semi moist. Good Luck.

Other answers:
yes. just make sure you dont let the roots touch air for a long time and have fresh soil

you know what i would at least look if they have any babys arround them git some manure and keep it away from the base of the tree stake them if there big dont be scared watch those power lines and dont git them to close to the buildings you know you want to so at least try it so what you fail try try a gain
You must get a root ball that is 8" in diameter for every inch of diameter of the trunk. There are also companies that have tree spades and move about any size tree. Don't know the cost though. dig the hole that your putting it in 3 times the size of the root ball.
Advice above is good regarding the root ball, etc. but don't forget to prune the tree after transplanting to reduce the amount of vegetation the roots need to support immediately after after the move!
