I have all of 3 metres x 3 metres of garden space - what plants should I squeeze there?
Answers:
You can buy vegetables now that are really pretty, like spinach with red stripes e.g. add some edible flowering herbs and it will be practical too. Ask your local nursery what grows best in your area. Place a large tree fern in the middle for balance. I saw this done on tv recently and it looked great.
Other answers:
Bird of paradise - full sun
Tree ferns - full sun & semi-shaded
Violas for ground cover
wonder lawn (instead of lawn) with sement blocks in between
Geraniums - full sun
Arum lillies - full sun loads of water
Impatience - dabble sun loads of water
If you have a wall around the garden - a trellis with jasmin
Bromeliads - semi-shaded water in the top of the plant
Stay away from banana tree as they tend to have a destructive root system - if you want to plant it just do it away from buildings, paving and boundry walls.
Dahlias, foxglove and honeysuckle
Enjoy!

Some natives and a small bird bath
ROSES, TULIPS, IRISES...
TALL IN THE CENTER, SHORTER AS YOU GET TO THE EDGE OF YOUR GARDEN.
YOU COULD PUT A BIRDBATH OR A BIRD FEEDER IN THE CENTER.
here's what you do:
1. plant a frangipani tree
2. hand bougainvilleas along the tree to drape a nice canopy
3. plant flowering shrubs to fill in the ground level
It will be terrific!
