You can use a pesticide call permethrin on your grassland thats a dirivative of a flower so its not a synthetic pesticide to take diligence of them. It can be found in a set to spray form at home depot or lowes. YES they carry disease and NO it doesnt hold to be on you for 12 hrs to transmit it to you. You dont want lyme disease...Its brutal and unfortunatly getting more common. One more item, you do not have to hold pets to have ticks within your yard but if you see strays likelihood are they will become a host for them. Get rid of the ticks
