No fire extingisher, single dampen to put out fire from someone's cigarette contained by my plastic flower pot?

I've been using dampen, but I think the roots/dry soil/plastic pot have been burning for hours?

Answers: I used to hold that where I worked..Just keep hold of an eye on it..Those things do smolder quite a bit.
