i found 61 snails in my garden this morning is this a record? Why do they come out in force like that?
Answers:
I don't know about a record ! but the reason why so many have come out is, they can only come out when it's been raining, they can only slither when it's wet, and they are looking for food, and it's not long before they'll be hibernating.
Other answers:
cause it rained, snails do need to drink, and they have been breeding a lot too.

Because of the draught they where living underground now when it rains they come out to feed, don't kill them they are food for other animals !
They've been laying low all summer and are hungry. the rain tells them it's time to come out and eat.
that is because it have been raining all day long ..but if it start to have sun all will weary out ,just be patients
The rain drove them out, they didn't want to drown. Also, they don't like to dry out, so if it's damp enough, they can stay out in the morning sun longer.
Ah, well, do you have a lot of plants for them to eat and hide in? They probably like the plants wet and hydrated, so they'd seem fresher. My cousin has a "jungle" in his front pathway, so I'm always afraid I'd step on a snail or slug!
yeah the rain, and it must be snail mateing season.
cool! and eww! and i have no idea but like go to some recordbreaking websites and see if you did like put something in like most snails in backyard record or something or buy a guiness book from barnes and nobles, or even ask the staff if there are any other books on animal weirdness or something, wish you luck! (wow! i'm talking to who might be the next person in a guiness book of world records book! yay!) :)
I have had more snails this year than ever before I must have had over 200 ,just cant seem to stop them coming in .
Maybe instead of a babe magner u r a snail magnet!
Your best bet to get snails is to go out at night with a torch, you'll get lots more than 61 I assure you.
They come in armies like squirrels and rabbits they are out to make a mess of all gardens.
Snails love the mositure. Rain, heavy fog heven high humidity will often bring them out in force. Try diatomaceous earth around your plants if they are eating your garden.
