When is the best time to plant a blue spruce in zone 6?

I'd like to replace a tree we had to cut down (growing too close to the house.) Is June the wrong time of year to plant a tree--should we wait until spring? (It will be getting in the 80's soon)

You really should plant in the early spring or late fall. The tree right now is busy growing, you should wait until it goes dormant in the fall. or in the spring before it candles (the new growth). Spruce trees take about 7 years before they are truly established. Proper watering is crucial. They need a slow and deep water ing in your zone about every 7-10 days. The best is a slow soaker. They also like soil on the slight acidic side so a good mulch is helpful.I try to discourage anyone from Every pruning, just be patient they will in time be a full and beautiful tree. The pine bark beetle or another name-isp beetle is prone and active in your zone. Keeping your tree stress free and no opened wounds will keep it healthy.
Spruce trees are a very slow growing tree in the first 3 years.After transplanting you may not see any new growth the following year but it will come. Good luck
