How do I plant a 4' Black Hills Spruce tree?

Answers:
to plant that or any other tree here's what you do:
dig your hole the same dept as the root ball of your tree and twice as wide. make sure the edges of the hole are choppy and not smooth. if you plan to add compost make sure that it's not more than 1/3 compost to 2/3 soil dug from the hole. Make sure the crown of the tree is not below the surface. the same level it was in the soil in the pot or root ball should be just right. before planting fill the hole with water and let it soak in. make sure the tree is level in the hole then fill in with soil, tamping to remove air pockets, water well and make sure to give it about 5 gallons of water every day in hot weather and at least once a week in cooler weather for the first season. If you stake it - don't need to stake it but if you do stake it, make sure the stakes are low and loose. on the bottom third the height of the tree and loose enough that the tree can sway some. remove by the following spring so the tree isn't strangled by the stakes.
