What is the difference between "isolated" thunderstorms and "scattered" thunderstorms?
Thanks!
Answers:
Isolated thunderstorms are restricted to one area (say your city) while scattered thunderstorms can travel and hit parts of a county or state. :-)
Other answers:
isolated means it will be in one particular area only, think about the word isolate, scattered means it will move around throughoutthe day not being in one area for very long

scattered means there might be some storms around your area and isolated means there will be storms in your area.
"isolated" t-storms will cover <1/8 of the sky...
"scattered" t-storms will cover 2/8 to 4/8 of the sky
The National Weather Service expresses the probability of measurable precipitation (0.01 inch) for a given location using percentages and terms such as isolated and scattered. Isolated means a chance of precipitation of less than 30% and scattered is used for a 30% to 50% chance. Likely describes a probability of 60 percent or greater
"Isolated" means less likely than "scattered" in weather reports.
0 - 100%
Clear, Stray chance, isolated, scattered, chance, categorical, likely, watch, warning.
