Do I need to remove dead grass from landscape, if it is just going to be covered with barkchips or gravel?
Answers:
You don't need to remove the dead matter, its dead it wont come back. Now that you've sprayed the area with roundup, do NOT disturb the soil. You will mix seeds back inot the ground where they will germinate and thus make more weeds. A growth barrier is a good idea, but do not till the ground or disturb it, or you'll have to wait 2 weeks and spray again.

I would recommend it, since stray strands of grass will tend to crop up between the bark chips and gravel anyway. You can't kill everything - this has happened to me several times when I thought I didn't need to remove it. But it always came back if I didn't. Either remove it, or lay down black plastic over it and then lay down the bark chips & gravel.

Certainly you can. Should you? It depends on your commitment to maintaining the beds,,,IE: WEED pulling, etc.
Believe this however,,,no matter how much you remove, more will intrude at some point, and stop using chemicals,,,sigh.
You have to remove debri anyway if you're going to plant other things. At the very least turn the soil and water away the roundup.

Put landscape fabric over the dead grass before you put anything on top of it. The fabric will let the water flow through, but not let grass or weeds grow up. You can get it a nursery or Home Depot/Menards/Lowes etc.
Round up becomes inert (no longer functional) when the plant material it was sprayed on (green plant material) has died. Round up intereferes with photosynthesis. No photosynthesis, it no longer works.
If everything really is dead you shouldn't need to remove the sod. That's the point of using roundup. However, as the other posters mentioned, weeds always have a way come coming up, so it's your choice.
Good luck on this! Wish there was a way you could follow-up...would make this question/answer thing a lot better :)
