Do you know the process of going about planting a flower bed?
Answers:
Make the bed before you plant it. Remove all sod and rocks. Check the soils composition...sandy? clay? Need to amend the soil for optimal plant growth? Is the bed situated in a sunny location, shady or a combination of both. After all the sod and rocks are out and the amendments in...work the soil into a nice seedbed. Decide what plants you want to use noting their sun/shade requirements and height + width. Low growers in front, midrange in the middle and taller varieties in back for foundation plantings. If your flower bed is round or oval, put the tall plants in the middle. Set your plants, water well and decide what fertilizer to use. I like that Miracle Grow stuff (I've always had great results). Do you want a perennial or annual garden? It's your choice! I'm a bit lazy and just want to plant once and see everything every year. I choose perennial and check how hardy that plant is (wouldn't want it to freeze out in the winter). Most plants and seed packets will tell you a zone number and you can check to see what zone you live in at most gardening sites on the web. If I'm using plants, after they are all in the ground, I sprinkle Preen around the soil to keep weed seeds from germinating. If your area is short on rainfall you might want to consider a soaker hose, drip system and some mulch around the plants to help conserve moisture.
Gardening is about fun and relaxation so don't push yourself. A good flowerbed can take a couple of years to develop a Great flowerbed is an on going project with additions, substitutions and deletions at your discretion.

First you must start by deciding where you want the flower bed.
Then mark it out in the lawn or area.
Remove grass or other unwanted plants.
Check the quality of your soil - if it is clay work in some riversand for drainage.
Work compost into the now new flower bed.
Water the area well, work in some more compost.
Choose the flowers / plants.
Plant the flowers according to preference and size - taller ones at the back and ground covers towards the front etc.
Make sure that the plants you choose are suited for the area - amount of direct sunlight, wind or frost must be taken into consideration.
Also make sure to plant plants with the same water needs together.
