how do I build a brick or stone wall with an existing slope in the ground?

Answers:
Go to www.pavestone.com and check out the Do it Yourself portion. They give step by step instructions. I built a very impressive wall two years ago using their techniques and it is still straight and lovely! I did actually use their bricks, but I'm sure you can adapt their techniques to any others as well. JUST REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR LEVEL CONSTANTLY! With the ground at a slope it tends to create an optical illusion. You will have a lot of stones underground just to keep it sturdy on the slope, don't skimp. Good luck. I love my wall!

I would put footers along the area that you want to build the wall to anchor it to the ground. The closer you place the footers and the deeper they go will make your wall stronger. So, if it is a very steep slope I would try to place the footers closer together and dig the holes deeper. Dig holes in the ground and install some kind of post in these holes. Secure the posts in place with concrete. You will want to make sure that these posts are pointing straight up while the concrete is setting so you will have to rig something up to hold the posts in place temporarily. Once the concrete has set up, attach some kind of framework between the posts. Some materials you might want to try would be rebar and wire mesh. Make sure to securely attach the wire mesh to the posts. Once a secure anchored framework is in place you can lay the brick or stone with mortar around it.
