what color do I paint the bottom of a bird bath?

I have an old cement bird bath and would like to know what colors to paint it to attract the birds

Answers:
Birds should be attracted to your birdbath naturally by just keeping the water cleaned. I would not suggest painting the inside of the birdbath. The paint could be toxic to the birds.

Other answers:
keep water in it they will attract themselves, put a little gravel or sand in the bottom, you don't need to paint it ..put a bird feeder close by if you really want to attract them..enjoy

dear dorrie,
i am not sure why it has to be painted unless it is really unsightly but i read one time that birds like brown or a dark blueish- grey..supposedly so they can judge the depth of the water. I have a cheap light gray plastic bird bath and they seem to like it..so i guess just paint it a color you like just so it is a non-toxic paint..good luck
Do not paint it! I read in the birds & blooms mag. that it can contaminate the water and be harmful to birds. they say if you do anything re-cement it...
Well - I'd NOT paint it a cheery yellow..because you don't want the birds to be blinded by the suns reflection of the paint. So I'd got with more neutral tones. And actually if it's cement...I'd just keep it that way. Less chance of later on the paint chipping off and poisoning the birds. Natural is always better..and healthier!
Though if your bird-bath is like one of mine which is a little deeper. Put a rock in the middle so they can stand on it..birds won't come there if the bath is too deep! And #1..clean it out every couple of days!
Enjoy your birds...I sure do watching mine!

I painted mine "water blue", I sat a rock to the side so the birds could sit on it while they drink. I get alot of birds too.
how cool, i wish i had it, i would paint birds taking a bath on the bottom, that would be so cute.
