a neighbour,an avid potholer, wants to build some practise tunnels under my back garden-is this ok?
Answers:
If you own your house, don't do it your insurance won't cover you............. this man can't be trusted!!!
Other answers:
no it isn't ok they need permission form the council plus your consent and they need planning permission etc.

That's such an awesome question - I'm unsure if you're joking or not but I'll answer anyway.
I wouldn't do it if you have any intention of ever selling the house, as it'll be a definite turn-off to prospective buyers. If you don't intend on selling, tell him it's no problem if he gets a basic contract drawn up saying he'll be willing to pay any damages that result to your property if he's wrong.
In the news in the last couple of weeks a guy was cautioned for doing exactly that (he's been doing it for years) and had to be rehomed (he was 76) as it made his home, neighbour's homes and surrounding areas structurally unstable. Nice idea, but a definite no.
WHAT? no way. that is where the term UNDERMINING comes from. he is undermining you and your homes security. no way. im sure it is illegal anyhow, legally he will have trouble getting planning permission to do anything like that in his own garden let alone yours!
NO. Move house. He is a mad man
don't b silly, don't go potholing in ur garden. Not if u dint want the walls to come in,were u tryin 2 go Australia?
if he wants to build tunnels tell him to do it in his own garden, then go to the council and let them know what he is up to, i think you have definitly got the nutty professer as your neighbour???
Tell him to go and dig under a bank.........
Definitely not- speak to your local council if you have trouble
doesn't sound very clever, you will probably end up with a big bill & falling out with your neighbour, once your garden caves in, tell him to go play in the park!
You must say no to this man, it would be very foolish to dig tunnels near any property
I wouldn't advise in case the ground your on falls in heath and safety first? and pipes water, gas and all that double check he is what he says he is.
NO.
Tell him that you will consult the local council as you think it could be against local bylaws/planning permission. If you agree, it could affect your home, your safety and anyone you sell to and your insurance.
he should move to an old mining area
lots in valleys of Wales
and lots of places they do not build on for this reason
NAW NAW NAW OUT OF THE QUESTION MATE TELL HIM>>>>>>>
you are being silly
Sounds more like an avid potSMOKER to me!!
That's probably what he really wants to GROW
in your back garden, hee hee And as we all know -
that IS illegal. Is it not?
why don,t they do it in their own yard
now that you know what he's upto, if you allow it i bet you'd find you are not insured.
Its a nightmare enough to get a covernent on a property to run a serwer or water pipe.
You'd never sell...unless of cause you're thinking of selling a pile of bricks when it falls down.
Its a joke, right ?
there was this Mr barrat of somerset who did this in 1926 and found a place which earns £2000000 in tour est revenue good luck pit props are on there way wokey hole anyone
GOOD GRIEF ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!
tell him to dig under his own garden or yard...........or house.........he can start in the ditch or where ever but tell him to do it in HIS yard
i dont care how long he has been a professor in geology what he is proposing to you IS NOT SAFE.
my dad has moved dirt and done dirt work all of his life and he laughed out loud when i read this to him he said that guy is full of ****
HE IS TAKING THE PISS
NO
it would make your garden and house unstable
Don't do it. Unless you make your neighbour to pay for a survey. You could put the stability of your house in danger.
and this guy is a professor, he should know he can't go passed his bounds. Maybe he is the nutty professor
I wouldnt let him do it your whole back could cave in
Do not cave in to this specious speleologist , he is not so much a potholer as plain potty. From Yorkshire to the Mendips , the west of Ireland to The Peak district there is more than enough pots , sumps, and stalactites and stalagmites to keep himm away from your garden . the man is a ladder short of a pitch !
tell him definatly no,make a mess in your own garden
go ahead let him do it , dont be a spoil sport
No. Tell him to dig one in the street for that is where most of them are any way. One more pothole in a street full of them, who would know.
Tell him to get a job digging graves that I hope will satisfy his need for digging. Besides digging holes for burial he may find the earth of geological value.
