First off not knowing the area you live its hard to determine.
In the north east I try not to mix much sand in and even try to put down a sub soil like clay etc.. before the lawn
this will help keep the moisture in and not drain rite through.
Golf courses specify a 30% loam and 70% sand for drainage
but they have fulltime greenskeepers
