Ants in my garden, can you help?

What are ways to kill an ant colony in your garden that doesnt envolve toxic chemicals that can hurt animals or children?

Answers:
The best way I have found to kill "Fire" ants is Blue Dawn dishwashing detergent. A couple of good squirts in a gallon of water is enough. Just pour the liquid on the colony and the next bday you see "red, dead, fire ants". I don't know about the other colors, but I do know blue Dawn works.

There is no way to avoid toxic chemicals. There are ways to use chemicals that aren't toxic to animals or children. I reccommend ACE Hardware store or OSH...They have the best things for ants...Make sure you ask the people there for stuff that isn't harmful for kids and animals...good luck.
try the spice rack like hot pepper or cyanide's paper..

To make the plants grow try this 1tablespoon of Epsom salt to one gallon of water. it works wonders for tomato's.
Wait the peeper stuff is for critters.
it is baking soda for ants.
If you disturb the nest and keep doing it they will move on until they leave your garden or move to an area you can't disturb

people say hot water works but I've found that it doesn't get deep enough to worry a deep colony
Napalm should work pretty well. Pay a visit to your local barracks and talk to the Commander there. He should listen to your problem sympathetically and it shouldn't take much to make him agree (a few cases of gin should do it) to let you have a consignment shipped straight to your door. You need to use napalm sparingly as it is quite potent. Be especially careful if you back onto a railway line as electricity and fire historically have been recorded not to go to well together. If you have small children or pets its best you strap them down somewhere or plug them into their games consoles. Start from the edges and work your way in until you have vapourised the whole back lawn. Ants as a rule are frightened of fire and you shouldn't have a problem incinerating the whole colony. Make sure you use all the napalm as many a village has been wiped off the face of the earth due to poor storage facilities - any problems come back to me straight away and if necessary I can tell you about the anthrax alternative !
Sprinkle the spice cinnamon liberally in your garden. The worker ants bring it into their colony and they die after eating it . Loved your answer, beiterspace! LOL
Sprinkle dry cream of wheat out. they eat it and dehydrates them, so im told.
If you can find their hole pour in some rubbing alcohol mix in a few drops liquid soap.you can also sory it on them.
