how do i get rid of snakes in my back yard, which happens to be very close to a river?

Answers:
I agree with cats and mongoose. Moth balls or sulpher will not stop a snake that goes up a tree/bldg and falls down inside the sulpher barrier.Or do all three!

Other answers:
get you a mongoose
get you a mongoose
You need a mongoose.
Line your yard with lime.(Around the property )
You need lots of mothballs! Spread them around your property. Most importantly, spread them around and underneath the house to keep the snakes outside.

You can also use sulfer, but I have always been afraid of that. "They say" that a snake won't cross sulfer. I was always afraid they would come inside, rather than cross the sulfer. Thus, I use lots and lots of mothballs. Snakes do not like them, and they also ward off wasps.
Get a cat.
moth balls
Move the river

Or get a cat, mongoose, dog, or a bigger snake
Mongoose is good. Roadrunner is also good.
you must get rid of the food they eat. probably mice but if the food goes the snakes go.
