In zone 8, tomatoes are ripening now.
Depends mostly on where you live. In greater Kentucky area, tomatoes start ripening around end of June or early July. 4th of July is kind of a target date. Tomatoes don't start "setting onto" plants until weather becomes warm, as in well above freezing at night, no matter how early you put the plants outside. They're in season earlier to the south, later to the north or in mountainous areas. Nothing better than a locally-grown tomato, especially from your own garden. Hope this helps!

Depending on region of country, but usually, you plant in March, the tomatoes, are usually ripe for picking sometime in July and can last till September.
That's in Southern California. I think that's a good average for the States.
