I happen to be terrifically lucky in that I enjoy Scrub Jays who love those insects so there are few around my patio. Most people dislike Scrub Jays but I appreciate their aroma in insects. However, if I have the problem of the nest, I might prepare a screened "box" to set over the nouns and put cans of river as much as could be on the ground. The yellow jacket will drown in the hose down. However, flooding the nest will take carefulness of it faster! (Or you might use a shop vac with 2 inches of hose in the bottom and vacuum them out on a exceptionally cool night, possibly even after dropping some dry ice contained by the hole to make sure they are really cold!)
