Are Craftsman lawn tractors a good value? I am looking into a 18.5hp 42" cut T1000 for $999.00 (new).?

Answers:
Can't say on that particular model, I have the 22HP GT500 (craftsman) and it's a good mower. I've even used it to level dirt and gravel with a box blade as well as mow, and I have several steep banks around me, and it will do a wheely. No trouble yet, have had for 3 mowing seasons.

sounds like a pretty good deal. I paid more than that for an 11hp 42" but it was step thru design with automatic transmission. Still that sounds pretty good.

The Craftsman is a good tractor.
Sears anything is great
I had a craftsman and it ran great... I never had any problems with it. I ended up trading it in on a John Deer though. But the only reason was I wanted a bigger cutting deck to cut my mow time down to 4 hours.

Good Luck
Sounds good. Craftsman is a good brandname.
But with any lawntractor. You need to read the owners manual. Find out where all the grease serts are. And use them. I've seen alot of lawn machinery die at an early age due to lack of maintenance.
not as good as a john deere
I would never buy another Craftsman mower. If you do not mind cleaning under the deck everytime you mow you should do ok. It does start easy, and easy to handle, but the grass packs under the deck worse than any mower I have ever owned.
Yes,they are good and it sounds like a really good deal to me.
You can't beat the value of Craftsman tools. They also have good warranties.
If that's the 27675 then it's a good tractor at a good price as long as you are goping to be cutting only on flat level ground. That model has a Briggs and Stratton engine which uses splash lubrication, as the crankshaft rotates it hits the pool of oil in the bottom of the engine which splashes it up to lubricate the engine. If you are on a hill the oil will shift to one side and there may be nothing to splash.

I recommend stepping up to a model with a Kohler Pro engine in it if they still offer them. If not, the B&S Intek Pro series of engines offer pressurized lubrication like the Kohlers do. If you're just using it to cut grass and maybe pull a little trailer around a 16 - 17 hp model will be more than sufficient. Stepping down a couple horsepower will let you get a better engine for about the same money. Keep an eye on the ads!
