Can watermellons grow in indiana clay soil in small backyard garden?
Answers:
amend that clay with gypsum-- it breaks the clay particles apart allowing roots to grow better, also clay has all the nutrients plants need but it's locked up and unable to be used-- the gypsum works wonderful-- If you dig your area in the fall and treat it with gypsum you'll watch that clay come apart all winter. -- compost will do wonders for soil, too.
good luck
