I freshly notice a possum surrounded by our backyard today surrounded by the snow and he is freshly poking around?

out there and drinking away. I don't understand what he is drinking though. What do they eat very soon in the winter? It's not resembling there is any debris out there. It is walking around within the shrubs.

Answers:    The Virginia opossum has a thoroughly varied diet contained by the wild. It's diet consists of approx. 10% protein,80%vegetables and 10% fruit. Because of this sundry diet there could be tons things that he is after in the snow. They get through everything from snakes (and are in certainty immune to rattle snake venom) and worms to grapes. He could be after shoots ,frozen berries, or even rodents. Don't tolerate their looks decieve you. They are actually rather docile and gentle . Everything roughly speaking them is set up as a defense mechanism and not offense. They show their teeth and hiss to frighten predators, but if that does'nt work they do the playing possum piece. Their last flash of defense is to salivate and foam and excrete a noxious substance from their rectum(I know ,that sounds wonderful) so they will appear diseased. As north America's only marsupial they are if truth be told quite interesting. I would sit vertebrae and watch and relish the little guy. Also do a google image survey and you will see how cute they can be. There actually are a few societies dedicated to this little animal. Anyone who have ever raised one will ( I am a re-habber) will explain to you how nice they really are.
I think its might be drinking, since possums might like a type of grass or weed. I'm not sure, and I know that raccoons do this, but perchance he's eating trash?
