occasionally sprinkle cayenne pepper on the leaves.. it deters the vermin without harming the plants.

Other answers:
there is a type of fencing (small border fencing) that you can buy that will keep them away. look in some gardening catalogs. I believe there is also some sort of spray that keeps them away but i'm not sure.

I would put a chicken wire fence up around them,
fencing is good but unattractive try repellents like critter ridder or deer off at home depot or check your local nuserys for coyote urine
SEVEN SUGGESTIONS TO STOP RABBITS FROM EATING YOUR BLOSSOMS.

Suggestion # 1 Put up a sign stating, "No Bunnies Please!"

Suggestion # 2 Give the bunnies a packet of flower seeds and ask them to grow their own.

Suggestion # 3 Put some carrots on the lawn away from your flowers. Careful, other animals may get the word and accept the invitation to dinner too.

Suggestion # 4 Take them all out to a vegetarian "all you can eat" restaurant..... they'll love you for it.

Suggestion # 5 Call Elmer Fudd...... he likes hunting Wabbits!

Suggestion # 6 Get all those dogs in that damn painting (playing cards and getting drunk) and have an OUTSIDE all-nighter. One will eventually get hungry and slip one between two peices of bread.

Suggestion # 7 Sit up all night long with a shot gun in hand and get ready to blow their little brains out. Put on the water cause they make good stew. Careful, wear a helmet and flack jacket because they may see you and come prepared!

Hope this helps.... if not, I'm sure you got a bit of a chuckle.

It has a lot to do with the type of mammal, if it is an animal?
For deer for ex. put some human hair around the plants or a sheet of fabric softener. When all else fails a .17 or.22 cal. pellet rifle will take care of the rabbit problem for good.
Deer Off works great. Don't get any on you when spraying and make sure the windows are shut...it stinks when first put on, but again, it works great!
Liquid Fence works great! It smells really bad until it dries. Make sure you don't get any on your clothes. They found some way to bottle cow manure :)
