I have field stones. I am looking for instructions on how to properly split them?

Answers:
A chisel and a rubber mallet; use the chisel and a regular hammer to 'mark' where you want the stone to split; then, hit it with the rubber mallet.

If they are very large or thick, then you'll probably need a 'professional' stone splitter that you can rent.

Other answers:
with a big hammer- or make your kids do it... and make em mow the lawn too.

you can rent a stone splitting device from landscaping rental places!
