can large begonia plants be propagated by a single leaf?
Answers:
They are one of the easiest plants to propagate. Find a small, "new growth" leaf at the end of a stem. Cut it so that there is a "node" that looks like a thick ring, around the bottom of the cutting. This is where the roots will sprout from, not the bare stem. Only have one leaf, and a stem that is less then three inches. Put it in a small glass of water, and change the water daily. Soon, you will see roots appear. Then simply plant it in a small pot. It's that easy...
Other answers:
Stem side down, plant 1/2 of the leaf below the dirt line.
Keep the soil moderately damp until new growth is observed.
Begonias also repond well to air rooting. Cut up a T-shirt into 4" squares. Place a heaping tablespoon of planting soil into a square and secure it around the base of a leaf. Maintain moist and cut off below the T-shirt afted a few weeks. Transfer to a small pot.
