Is there a way to keep trees from growing any further?

I have a nice oak tree growing beside my fence and deck . My wife loves it and wants to keep it but I fear that it will cause damage if it grows much further. Are there any chemicals or procedures to stunt its growth?

after the tree goes dorment in the winter. you can cut the roots back and put something at the end of the root and it will stop it from running. just keep the roots cut back

not that i know of, we have two trees that have to come down, the roots are heading towards our septic tank & they can punch a hole in it & what a mess we could have, the roots look for a water source. one of our neighbors told us that they don't need to come down he knows nothing about trees like we do so they will be coming down soon.
You can stunt the growth of a tree if you place it in a pot or large container that limits the root growth. By limiting the area you limit its nutrient absorbing capacity and therefore stunt the growth of the tree. This is how most bonzai trees are made. They are place in small pots. If you want a bigger bonzai tree you increase the size of your pot.
