How do I best grow roses from stems?
Answers:
I have grown roses from cutting off dead blooms and sticking the stem directly in dirt or potting soil.. about 60% of them will grow.. you need to cut a stem about 8 to 10 inches long and stick them in the soil.. water often if putting them outside. but not to much that they rot off.
Treat them like you do all the rest of the flowers to keep them going and you should have some growing again by the next season..
you say you have some sprouts. be very careful when you put out side . push the dirt around them to avoid air pockets but not to tight to hurt the tiny roots.. they will grow.. be patient.
good luck

There is a rooting hormone product that works well. Rootone is one brand and Schultz also makes one. It is a white powder usually sold in a small bottle or packet that you dip the stem of the plant you want to grow in to it before you place it in a potting mix. This can be found in the garden section of some specialty home/garden stores or major chain hardware stores. I have used it myself and it does work. I have never seen it in Walmart but The Home Depot and even the mom/pop owned stores have it. Good luck!
