What is the best way or thing to do to keep snakes off your property and house?
Answers:
Even if you didn't live near woods, I don't think there is a foolproof way to keep out snakes- they are a sign of a healthy environment,so I wouldn't be overwrought with anxiety. I am not fond of them myself, however I've lived in this house nearly 10 years(it's a heavily wooded lot on a dead-end road) and have seen 2 snakes in that time. Snakes are rarely seen anyway because they're not fond of humans either who kill them indescriminately, good or bad. Most snakes are of the good sort-they kill rats and mice and other vermin that would otherwise run rampant. And by the way, only one of the snakes I saw was venomous.

If you put mothballs under your porch or anywhere a snake might hide, it will repel them for a couple of months, then just replace them

keep the yard mowed ! keep anything picked up that they can hide under!even a peice of harmless cardboard can give them a hiding place!put mothballs under your house!that will detour them as well as other bothersome pest!you might get a cat!they will kill snakes and mice that attract snakes!also,be sure to rake up and pick up or burn any loose leaves!they love to hide in them!
get a pet mongoose
snakes go where the food is... eliminate any food source like mice or rats. Buy a couple of good farm cats to patrol your area.
Keep your yard clean and don't give them a comfortable place to live.
Hard question to answer if you live in an area that has a healthy snake population.
I, too, have snakes in and near my yard. They seem to be very plentiful this year-most years I don't see any.
First, I am an animal lover but find snakes creepy, especially when they surprise you. But I want to encourage you to relocate them rather than kill them since they really are beneficial to the environment by eating bugs and mice, etc.
The first couple that I found this year I tried to grab while wearing gloves. I soon found out that I had to hold them down in order to grab them and I found a corn broom (as opposed to a push broom) worked pretty good at holding them till I could grab them. But that still creeped me out so I bought a snake catcher on EBay. I bought a 40 inch long one and although I have yet to use it, I think it will be just what I need. Basically it's like the old tongs storekeepers used to use to get things like a roll of toilet paper off a high shelf.
In my practicing with it, the catcher is certainly strong enough to hold onto the snake and I will still use the broom to hold it in place in order to catch the snake with the catcher.
Whatever you do, I encourage you to be humane in whatever you do to rid your property of snakes.
And best of luck to you!
We live in Tennessee and we use mothballs in the crawl space under our house, haven't seen a snake yet!
My neighbor feeds the neighborhood stray cats. The cats patrol my yard. Saw one playing with a mouse before it ate it the other day. Never have saw a snake yet, thank God! eweweweew
Anyway, I second the cats suggestion. Get some outdoor cats, or feed the strays, if there are any.
