Water it once a week and keep it in a room with a lot of indirect light. Take it outside when it rains to wash it off and get fresh water.

maybe you could buy a light to beam on it at all times.
Water when soil is dry to the touch. They like consistency. Do not move it after you have found a sunny but cool area. Preferable not in a breeze or a walkway.
DON'T MOVE IT. I was invited to a party given by a horticulture teacher and everyone was busting a gut as soon as they walked in. You lost 10 points on his test if you didn't know that ficus are extreemly sensitive about being moved. He cleaned up his own house, moving the plant, and all night at the party the leaves continued to drop off.
(it doesn't die, but after the shock it takes awhile for them to grow back)
We have the tree-type Weeping Fig Ficus. If this is what you have, give it a bright spot, but not full sun. Water thoroughly when you do water it, but let it dry out a little between waterings. Keep it away from drafts, and if possible, don't move it to a different location once you have a good spot. They don't like to be moved and will drop their leaves if there is any changes in its care. Mostly, they are easy to care for and they really add interest to the home.
Ficus trees like lots of sunlight, but can burn in direct light. Keep moist, but not soaked. Rule # 1 for ficus, if the leaves are yellow and falling off, not enough water. If the leaves are green and falling off, too much water. If you move the tree inside and out with the seasons, you will experience some leaf loss with each move(in or out) due to the shock to the plant. It will always come back.
