how do I chop a tree down correctly?

want it to fall correctly not hit anything it is 20 foot high

Answers:
you could go and cut sections starting from the top and only cut short sectons at a time or cut out a large wedge halfway through on the side that you want it to fall to and then cut from the other side
it also helps to have someone pulling a rope tied to the top in that direction, perferably from much farther than 20 feet away

Other answers:
u cut it at an angle dont cut it srt8 across and kinda guide it to the way u want it to fall

Chop branches off the side you don't want it to fall on (so if you want it to fall left, cut all the branches off the right - this is to weight the tree).

Cut a big V shape on the same side as the branches about a foot up the trunk. - the V shape should not go deeper than half the width of the trunk!!

Cut through from the opposite side in a straight line towards the middle of the V shape.

Hey presto the tree will fall in that direction.

I should point out that the area must be clear in a 30 foot radius as this is not an exact science and accidents do happen all the time, even to experienced tree surgeons.

Use an axe (unless you have been trained in chainsaw use - which by the sound of things your not) with a long handle. Stand with feet braced and swing with a smooth action, letting the weight of the axe head create the power to chop, you shouldn't have to force - this is dangerous.

As I said, cut the tree branches off first as this makes it safer and leave branches on the side you want it to fall, the weight of the branches (should) will drag it in that direction when it falls. The V shape is important as it directs the tree when falling, you should never have to push the tree in any direction - it is bigger and stronger than you are!!! People are killed all the time doing this so if you take my advice you get a registered tree surgeon to do this.
Cut down branches first. Then when you get it small enough, angle your cut so that the tree will fall in a direction which will not damage someone or something.
Oh that is easy man. First you cut horizontally then you cut a slant till they meet. will kindof be like a 45 degree angle removed out of the tree cut the slant on the side you want it to drop then you push. Remember do not cut all the way through. If you cut all the way through you will reck your chainsaw
Get a professtional to do it.I once knew someone that tried to cut one down & the branch gave & hit the saw & the saw went in his head & killed him.He left two little girls behind & his wife.
First, cut off any low hanging limbs you can safely reach. This will allow the tree to fall without a limb interfering with its fall. Best to use a tree saw for this or if the branch not to think a tree trimming saw.

Be sure everyone and everything is out of the way where the tree is to fall. About a foot to two feet above the ground, cut a wedge shape cut with a large Axe on the side you want it fall. Do not use a small hatchet (I smashed my nails on the tree doing that and lost two nails painfully). The first cut should be horizontal and could be done with a saw, but an Axe is likely quicker. The next cut should be at an angle downward (about 45 degrees) into the tree towards the point the first cut stopped. (if possible put someone on a very long rope to help pull the tree towards the direction desired. Be sure it will not fall on that person so the rope must be long.)

Trim all the branches from the tree. Next cut the main part of tree into sections.

After clean-up you can get a chemical from the hardware store or nursery to destroy the stump still in the ground. You can also do this by chopping it too, but it will take a while.
You can by asking a woodcutter cause he or she as a woodcutter do have enough experience to tell you so. Am I correct?
