Answers:
The general rule of thumb is that the root system will spread to the same radius as the overhead leaf canopy. Over the years, the canopy can easily grow to over 50' across.

Yes they do!! Lovely trees, but roots and sprouting are a real problem. The parent tree can be harmed if you use herbicides on the sprouts. I just dig them out, constantly, for years.
