An unlicensed Paving contractor has disappeared with $12,000 of my money. Any ideas on how to locate him?

Only contact was via Mob #. No work performed and even Consumer Affairs have lost him as well. I need some advise on who I can list a mis-per with and help me find this guy - even if interstate.

Answers:
I don't think you will be able to find this guy. If you paid him with cash forget it; you lost your money.
If he had a union or if you had his social that could be a solution.

Good Luck.
Good Luck.
Contact your local district attorney...chances are if the guy has done work for others in your town, someone else has reported him and the D.A. might have the contact info. At the very least, the man has committed a CRIME and should be reported anyway.
hmmmm.....Call Ms. Cleo....
If you have his name you can check his house. Also small claims court may help.
It looks like you got caught in one of the oldest scams around. Why would you pay before the job is finished. It happens a lot so don't feel you are the only one. There is very little you can do. File a complaint with the consumer agency in your area and also the police. give all information you can. If you have the cell phone number it can be checked and find out the numbers that phone had called and who had called it. someone in that group will know who he is gut sorting through it all is not easy. Most likely you will never see your money again. Even if he is found he probably has no money.
"Cheap is expensive" its a gypsy con...sorry that you got taken... next time go with a licensed contractor
The 'phone company should have an address for the mobile number, but I guess it is false. If that does not work, you just hope he is caught trying to scam someone again.

Be sure to report this to the police, consumer agency etc.

Remember that there is a fair price, if the job is too cheap look out for trouble
NEVER pay until the work is completed, or at the very least, you want to stay 10% behind, which will encourage him to stay on the job and finish satisfactorily. If the contractor says he needs money up front, go elsewhere, as it means he has no credit account anywhere, and that alone should tell you all you need to know about him. Another reason would be that if materials are stolen from the job site, it will be his loss, not yours.

Your money is gone. Even if you find him, you won't find the money, unless he is a very stupid crook.
Unlicensed goodluck. The only way you can get him is a bounty hunter,or thru DMV,etc. local authorities will take your complaint and file it away. Even the better business bureau has no recourse because he's a runaway. Sorry. I'm filing a claim on a contractors bond but he's licensed. Is this guy illegal immigrant?
