About roses.....?

why does one dead head roses?...should one do it or leave them alone?....explain reasoning please....thank you

Answers:
The reason you dead head any flower is to encourage growth. As long as the dieing flower is there(or dieing leaves and branches) the energy of the plant is continuing to go toward that process. By removing the undesirable, you will have a bushier, plant with more flowers.

Other answers:
If the spent flower is left on the bush, the plant puts it's energy towards making SEEDS in rose hips instead of making more flowers. Deadheading regularly encourages more flowers :-) And don't forget to water-water-water in this too-hot summer :-)

there are several ways to dead head

1) just clip the spent flower
2) clip the stem back to the next branch
3) clip the stem back to just past the first set of 5 leaves
