How does a pulsating sprinkler work?

I can't find directions except those that name sprinkler parts that I don't even know what they are. It says like "this will do that" but I don't understand what the "this" is!

Answers:
if i understand you a pulsating sprinkler is one of those that you buy and attach to your garden hose.then it goes in a circle for a ways, then clicks and comes back to its starting point at a faster speed before clicking and starting the process over.if so,you will find two rings just under the sprinkler head with a little protrusion.these should turn.just above the rings is a metal loop that clicks back and forth.this it what makes it go one way until it hit one of the ring protrusions hat make it click to go back the other way.by turning the rings you can adjust the area to be watered.on some models you can flip themetal loop up and it will go completely around.hope this helps
