It's difficult, but can be done. Leave it outside, if you know for sure the nest is in the pot. You'll still have some stragglers inside to whack.
Buy a package of the small ant baits from the grocery or walmart. Place the plant on a table, with the baits around the base.. Hopefully the ants will go to the bait first and then take it back to poison the rest of the nest.
You can also repot, but then you get the problem of getting bitten plus you may not get all of the nest, unless you wash off the roots completely before repotting.

Try submerging the soil under water to float them out of the soil, and spray the top with water to knock them off. It's free and worth a try. It will surely get rid of many if not all of them

Go to your local garden center and buy some plant spray that kills various insects on your inside and or outside plants.
There are several name brands that carry such spray and it probably depends on what store you go to and what area you live in as to whats available.
I always spray my plants before bringing them inside for the winter just to make sure nothing comes in the house with them.
