frequently used plants for household landscaping?

Answers:
This is such a broad area to cover with one short answer; it helps to know what planting zone you are in, what types of gardens you are planning (foundation planting, beds of shrubs, annuals, perennials), are you starting from scratch, adding to...?
So let me direct you to a website. (Better Homes and Gardens) It is free, though they do ask you to register. I have yet to receive any unsolicited mail through them.
On this site you can peruse different garden plants from the most basic to the most intense and different. Lists of plants are included, along with drawn plans for making your own.
Enjoy!

this really depends on the area you are in...

www.garden.org has some really good information where you put in your zipcode and it will tell you the zone you live in and give suggestions!
For outdoor landscaping any plant that returns yr after yr.....the Hostas is a nice leafy plant that tends to cover empty or bare spots nicely, butterfly bushes and the laurel type trees are also popular, any flower bearing ground covering perennial is nice.
If you're trying to have plants for only indoor use, it doesn't matter what zone you're in. Depending on what lighting you have, I would recommend philodendron, gardenia, cyclamen, English Ivy, ficus trees, African violets, gerbera daisy, gloxinia... have fun decorating!
