How do i get rid of knot weed. It looks like fiscue but grows 2 to 3 inches taller.?

I was told it was knot grass but it doesnt quite look like the pictures i have seen. It looks sort of like the fiscue grass i have but it grows 2 or 3 inches taller and is a different shade of green. My yard lookks funny casue it has patches that are twice the size of other areas of my yard.

It is hard to answer this when the common name could refer to a number of species. Here is what a British website suggests ... it is labor-intensive work but just about the only way to get rid of this weed.

"Once you have knot weed you are in for a long fight. It is almost impossible to dig out, simply because ever piece you miss will form a new plant. The best control method is the controlled use of chemical weed killers. At Garden Advice have used the following two methods with good results.

1. Paint round-up weed killer directly onto the stems using several applications over 3 to 4 months.
2. Break open the stems and pour in a small amount of neat roundup weedkiller and seal the stem to stop animals accessing the chemical.

Because knot weed dies down in winter these methods can only be used in the spring and summer."

we have spots in our yard where the grass will just clump and be taller and a different shade of green than the rest. my husband tried killing it with poison but it never died completely. he finally just dug them all up and plugged it with grass from other parts of the yard. looks much better. not really sure what kind of grass it was. m
