How do I start an avocado seed a growin'?

I know nuthin' do I dry it then put it in water or what? Also once it starts can I plant it in the ground?

Answers:
As is, I would take the pit/seed and put 3 toothpicks around the middle to prop in in a semi-wide cup so it' is dipped in the top but not touching the bottom. put some water in and near a kitchen window to grow... NOT bake in the sun

when it sprouts, unless you live in the perfect climate... I would plant it in a HUGE container with great soil for veggies... go to a local store like home depot and tell them what you are transferring.

not an easy plant to starter grow though! but fun to experiment!

Well..I read in a recipe book something about this... You take the pit then place it in a glass of water. Balance with two toothpicks. In a week or so, you should see a little plant growing on top. If it's big enough, then you can plant it in the ground. The end. <wink>
